Grieving Over the World
On this Palm Sunday, we’re challenged to confront the reality of grief and abandon denial in our lives. The focal point is Jesus’ lament over Jerusalem in Matthew 23:37-39, where he expresses deep sorrow over the city’s rejection of God’s messengers. This passage invites us to reflect on our own tendency to deny brokenness in three key areas: political, societal, and spiritual. We’re encouraged to grieve over systemic issues in our world, just as Jesus wept over Jerusalem. The imagery of a mother hen gathering her chicks under her wings beautifully illustrates God’s desire to protect and nurture us. This message calls us to submit our influence and power to Christ, recognizing our need for a Savior and allowing ourselves to be gathered under his wings of love and protection. By embracing this vulnerability and acknowledging our brokenness, we open ourselves to experience God’s transformative grace in our lives and communities.
