What Is A Columbarium?
Simply put, it’s a place of peace and remembrance. For centuries, columbariums have served as sacred spaces for the respectful placement of cremated remains. The word “columbarium” comes from the Latin columbary, meaning a structure for the nesting of doves — symbols of God’s spirit and peace.
For PCBC members — past, present, and future — this means that upon completion, the PCBC Columbarium and Memorial Garden will provide a beautiful, lasting space for reflection, prayer, and remembrance. Designed within a gated entry that includes a memorial garden, fountain, and seating areas, this sacred place will offer a quiet place of comfort to families and loved ones.
Phase One of the Columbarium will include 520 niches, each holding up to two urns. Phase Two will add 560 more niches, ensuring space for generations to come.

Understanding the Theology of Cremation
While the Bible does not prescribe specific instructions about cremation or burial, as believers, we hold firm to the promise of bodily resurrection. Scripture reminds us in Genesis 3:19, “…for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” More importantly, regardless of how our bodies return to the earth, God’s Word ensures the resurrection of all who are in Christ.
Many people view cremation as a way to care for and steward resources wisely, particularly in a growing city like Dallas, where land for traditional burials is limited. Where this is the case, columbariums provide families with a sacred and accessible space to honor their loved ones.
If you have specific theological questions about cremation, we invite you to email us at pastorsoffice@pcbc.org.
“I am the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
