Matthew 14:1-14

Grieving Over the Past

March 09, 2025 by Travis Cook

In this message, we’re reminded that our past often haunts us, much like the ghosts in Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol.’ We explore Matthew 14:1-14, which tells the story of Herod and John the Baptist. This passage reveals how our past choices can compound, creating an avalanche of consequences in our lives. But there’s hope. We learn that Christ alone has the power to redeem our past and heal our grief. Just as Jesus withdrew to grieve yet still showed compassion to the crowds, we’re encouraged to bring our pain to God and allow Him to use our experiences to help others. This message challenges us to confront the ‘ghosts’ of our past, trusting that in the light of Christ’s return, we’ll see how He has been working all along to redeem our stories.
