Matthew 26

Judas: The Tragic Disciple

March 08, 2026 by Dr. Jeff Warren

This week’s message examines the tragic story of Judas Iscariot and the sobering truth it reveals about the human heart. In Matthew 26, we see that proximity to Jesus is not the same as genuine faith. Judas spent three years with Christ — witnessing miracles, sharing in ministry, and walking closely with the Savior — yet ultimately betrayed Him for thirty pieces of silver.

The sermon also highlights the difference between worldly regret and true repentance. Judas felt remorse, returned the money, and admitted his wrongdoing, but he never turned back to Jesus. His sorrow led him further into despair, while Peter’s failure led to restoration because Peter ran toward Christ, not away from Him.

This message calls us to examine our own hearts, to bring hidden sin into the light, and to stop disguising compromise with respectable labels. The good news is that Jesus’ grace is greater than our failures. His love invites us not to live as those who betray Him, but as those who are restored and defined by His mercy.
